Monthly paste wormer or daily pellet wormer?
Which one do u use?
Monthly paste wormer. Actually it is more like quarterly.
I have had a very bad experience with daily wormers and will not EVER use them. I brought a horse to my barn that was on daily wormer at her previous barn. She was fat and healthy looking. As soon as she came to my barn she started dropping weight - fast. I thought it was the stress of moving barns. I wormed her. She picked up a little weight then started dropping again. I wormed her again...same thing. In the mean time I TRIPLED her feed. Still lost weight. Finally I saw a WORM crawling out of her butt!!! I was completely grossed out. Called the vet and he suggested a Pancur Power Pack and said that nobody should count on daily wormers alone because all they do is keep the worms knocked back not gone. As soon as she wasn't getting the daily anymore they exploded in her system. By the time we finally figured out what her problem was the whole herd had a worm problem and everybody got wormed every 2 weeks for 8 weeks. What a mess.
So heres the thing....if you can't count on daily wormer alone and still need to use the paste wormer why on earth would anyone in their right mind waste money on the daily wormer in the first place? As I said, she looked fat and healthy when she arrived but immediately started losing weight. The only thing that changed was she was no longer getting the daily wormer. I had never, ever had a worm problem until I brought the horse to my barn...and I have never had one since.
