Trying to eleminate some unnecessary things?
I hope to finally be getting my horse within the next couple months to a year. I am on a budget, so I am trying to cut back on some things that aren't really absolutely necessary.
I have all the tack, clothes, and grooming supplies taken care of.
Do I really need a shedding blade though?
I just don't know about stable supplies. Is there something else that is absolutely necessary?
-turnout sheet
-stable sheet/cooler (light enough to be a Fly Sheet also)
-shipping boots
-feed and water buckets (boarding so I only need these for shows)
-hay net
-first aid kit
-trailer tie
Is there something else absolutely necessary?
Ok, so no stable sheet/cooler? The reason I wondered about the shedding blade is I have been ridding 9 years and have never used one. And boot are included in tack. I might get standing wraps instead. Whichever costs less.
You WILL need a shedding blade! The first poster is riding school horses, which probably get groomed by tons of people. A shedding blade saves you about half an hour of time and costs around $5. Why wouldn't you get one? They are great when the horse rolled in mud too, they aren't just for shedding. You can also use them to clean your other brushes, a great tool.
You don't need a turnout sheet or a cooler unless you're clipping the horse in the winter.
I don't like haynets, get a hay bag. Haynets are dangerous because a horse can get a leg caught in it.
I am not 100% sure what you mean by a trailer tie... I just take a lead rope and tie my horse to the trailer with a quick release knot.
