I have a paint horse(with quite a bit of white) and after cleaning him up today I noticed a lot of pink.?
I am not sure if he is sun-burned or if this is just the color of his skin. I have only had him for a few months. He is a medicine hat paint(bald face) and has one blue eye. I am not very familiar with what to do to protect him from the suns rays...should I keep a Fly Sheet on him or use sunscreen? Right now I am concerned about the pink skin. After getting all the dirt off of him he just looked so pink. Looking forward to productive answers and thank you!
well, im only 14, but ive been around many horses is the last 5 years, and from experience, i know that most light colored horses also have lighter skin. It could just be normal for him. (but it could be a sunburn, depending on where u live. Here in southern canada, the sun isnt that strong, and horses only rarely get sunburned, even in the middle of summer. But if u live somewhere much warmer, its a good possibility) If it darkens, or changes in any way, it could be something else, and you should get it checked out. But i wouldnt worry too much for now. If there was something really wrong with him, he would probably let you know, by acting up, shying away when you touch it, or pawing the ground repetitively with with foreleg.
