is travel free in the air force if your traveling to another base?
I really wanna get stationed in yokota air base in tokyo and I'm putting it first on my dream sheet after air force basic training but I realize I probably won't get it. Anyway if I don't I wanna travel to tokyo when I get vacation time. Is it free to fly to yokota air base if I flew with the af from the base I'm stationed in or wuld I have to fly out of an airport
If there are cargo flights going to a base, you can fly space a, it cost $10.00.
But its not as easy as you seem to think it is.
Its not like every base has cargo flights to all other bases.
You can be bumped off a flight, and can have to wait 3 or 4 days to actually get on a flight.
Its not like you get a ticket for a specific flight, you have to wait till there is a flight with room.
And of course, getting back is another thing.
So to actually do it, you have to be prepared to but a regular airline ticket, in case there is no flight.
It all depends on the base your at.
When I was in NY, we had c-141's that did 3 month TDY's in England. So when the C-141 went TDY, you could catch the flight over, and then the C-141 they were relieving came back 3 days later, so you had a ride back.
But its alot different trying to get into Japan, there are alot more people trying to get those flights.
