Horse Riding Facility, insurance costs?
Hey guys,
I'm 20 years old. I've almost completed my Sport Equestrian Coaching Certificate III (which is equivilent to the EFA Level 1), I was thinking about coaching on my parents farm (where I live), during weekends only. On the farm we have a grassed and fully fenced 20x60m arena, aswel as a jumping area, which is in a 1 acre fenced paddock. I have 4 of my own horses (all quiet, and have taught and been ridden by begginers in open area's) incase students dont have there own horse. I was just wondering, what would the insurance cost per year for me to do this from home? It's only part-time for an income as I am a fulltime student. I would like the insurance to cover everything possible.
I don't have an exact answer for you, but a few points to consider:
Equestrian activities of any kind are considered by insurers to be high-risk activities, because the incidence of injuries is high and the injuries can be severe. (I assume that you're talking about liability insurance coverage, not insurance of property.)
Because you would be conducting the activity as a business, there might be specific exclusions of coverage relating to the fact that it's being conducted at a place that is a residence. It's also possible that in order to obtain coverage, you might have to make some changes to the facilities to comply with insurance company requirements.
This isn't a question that can be easily answered, because there are so many variables. What you need to do is call several insurance companies and ask them for quotes. You might also want to talk to several other people who operate riding schools and offer training/lessons and find out how they get along, insurance-wise.
