De Worming a Puppy Sooner than Two Weeks?

I found Maggie in a box on Sept 30. On Oct 1 I gave her an OTC DeWormer - HeartGuard 8 Ways. The next day, I took her to the Vet and she gave Maggie the yellow paste stuff. She was crapping out roundworms like crazy...but her belly is still distended like there are worms. She has a second dose of the yellow stuff waiting for her on October 16, but could I give her another dose of the OTC stuff to help her get rid of any remaining worms that might be growing in her right now instead of waiting for the 16th? I'm worried about her.

The over the counter de-wormers are not very good. They do not get rid of all the different types of parasites.

Also you should not be giving her additional dosages of any forms of medications with out the vet telling you to do so. You could cause more damage than good.

Puppies should be de-wormed at 2 weeks of age, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks and 10 weeks old and started on heart worm preventative around 8-10 weeks of age or as determined by your vet. First vaccinations should be given at 8 weeks and every 4 weeks thereafter and the rabies vaccination is given at 16 weeks of age.

The best de-wormers are those that you can buy at the vets office as they are stronger and they will give the appropriate medication for the type of parasite/s that she has.

If you are concerned about her then you call the vet and bring her in to be reexamined.

Never try and self diagnose our pet!

Never five your pet medications bought at any stores. Besides them not being very good, you have no idea as to how long they have been on the self or in a back room prior to being put onto the shelves. Even over the counter medications, human or pet have expiration's whether or not they are listed on the packaging.

Through out your over the counter medications and only give her medications recommended and purchased from your vet.
